Providers

Agents in Appenda run through an external coding assistant you already use: Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor. Appenda keeps the chat beside your table and passes table context to whichever runtime you pick.

Each chat tab is tied to one provider runtime: Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.

Supported providers

ProviderBest for
Claude CodeAnthropic subscription or Claude account
CodexOpenAI Codex access
CursorCursor subscription

You choose the provider when you start a new chat tab. Each tab sticks with that runtime for its whole thread.

How it works

  1. Open Agents from the title bar.
  2. Click + on the tab bar and pick Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor.
  3. Send a prompt. The agent can read and, when allowed, change the open table.
  4. Complete sign-in if the provider asks for it.

Appenda bundles supported runtimes with the desktop app. You do not install a separate agent binary or point Appenda at a custom path.

Each tab keeps its own transcript and connection. Switching tables does not start a new provider; starting a new tab does.

Workspace policy

Workspace admins control which providers members may use under Settings → Agents → Allowed providers. If a provider is missing from +, your admin may have turned it off for the workspace.

Sign-in is separate

Picking a provider starts the runtime. Sign-in covers provider login and Appenda account access when either side needs it.

FAQs

Why is Claude Code or Codex stuck, slow, or not replying?
The provider's own service may be having a momentary outage or slowdown. Check Anthropic status for Claude Code and OpenAI status for Codex. If those pages show an incident, wait for the vendor to recover, then send again or start a fresh tab.
Why did my Cursor tab disconnect?
Cursor runs through your Cursor account and network like any cloud assistant. A dropped Wi-Fi session, sleep/wake, or a Cursor-side issue can pause the chat. Reopen the tab or start a new Cursor tab from +. If problems persist, check Cursor's status or support channels.
Why is a provider missing from the + menu?
Your workspace admin may have disabled it under Settings → Agents → Allowed providers. You also need a signed-in Appenda account with agent access. See Sign-in if the panel shows a gate instead of the composer.
Can I switch provider on the same tab?
No. Each tab is tied to one provider. Use + to start Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor in a new tab and keep the old thread in history if you need it later.
Is the in-app agent the same as MCP?
Same Appenda table tools, different surface. Providers here are the built-in Agents panel. MCP connects an external Codex, Cursor, or Claude Code client from your machine. See Connect with MCP if you work that way.
